Happy to help!

Our volunteers are a mix of individuals, students, corporate volunteers and community, interest and faith groups. They get involved in nearly all aspects of construction under the supervision of our qualified site staff.

Using volunteer labour to build our homes provides those who give up their time with the opportunity to learn new skills, gain confidence, meet new people, boost their CV or simply give something back to society. It also helps us keep costs down, which is important as we are working towards a very tight budget.

Learning new skills also empowers individuals to grow in confidence and knowledge, and the wider community benefits when barriers are broken down, and people from all sectors of society work together towards a common goal.

You might be a student looking to gain valuable work experience, a HR manager in search of a novel team-building exercise for your staff, an unemployed or retired trades person looking to ‘keep your hand in’ or an individual/group of people simply looking to do something productive and worthwhile with your spare time. You can be sure that we will have plenty for you to get stuck into whether you become a regular on site or can only attend as a ‘one-off’.

We’ve already welcomed more than 12,000 volunteers to our Kingsley Road/St Bernards Church site, many of them coming from overseas to experience our unique project.

We are grateful to the many volunteers who’ve travelled from as far afield as the USA, China, Romania, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand as well as the local people including graduates from Liverpool, Hope, and John Moores Universities, Hugh Baird College and Liverpool Community College.

We have also enjoyed our long standing partnerships with the French university’s La Rochelle and ESTP Paris and have been delighted to offer over 50 student placements.

At the moment there are no opportunities for volunteering on the St Bernard's project, but HPBC will obviously be grateful of volunteers on future projects.
